Homemade Laundry Detergent Recipe: Clean, Fresh, and Affordable

I don’t recall who originally shared this homemade laundry detergent recipe, and unfortunately, I can’t find the post anymore. But a huge thank you to whoever posted it! I’ve been using it for a while now and finally decided to give it a try. The results are amazing—my clothes not only smell wonderful but also come out cleaner, brighter, and softer than ever before. I’m never going back to store-bought detergent!

Ingredients:

  • FOCA Laundry Detergent: $4.48 (small bag; adjust amount as preferred)
  • Baking Soda: 4 lb box, $3.34
  • Borax: 65 oz box, $5.97
  • OxiClean Powder: $5.98 (size as preferred; used small container)
  • Epsom Salt: 4 lb, $3.78 (scented or unscented; unscented used to avoid mixing smells)

Optional Additions:

  • Scented Beads or Crystals: Choose as desired. Example: Unstoppables, $15.97

Storage:

  • Tote: 27 quart, $7.28 (ideal for storage)
  • Scoop: Ice scoop, $0.97

Total Cost:

  • Under $25 (or $45 with optional items due to inflation)

Instructions:

  1. Mix Ingredients: Combine FOCA Laundry Detergent, Baking Soda, Borax, OxiClean Powder, and Epsom Salt in a large container or tote.
  2. Optional: Add scented beads or crystals if desired.
  3. Store: Use the tote for storage and the ice scoop for easy dispensing.
